Oaklawn Cemetery

In the 1850s, five children of William and Jane Gill Palmer moved to Big Grove, Pottawattamie County, Iowa: Eda Palmer Morris Rust, Mary Palmer Cousland Wilkinson, Benjamin Palmer, Susan Palmer Huff, and Minor Thomas Palmer. They and many of their descendants are buried here. The town name was later changed to Oakland.
The original part of the cemetery, shown in the upper left on the map, is known as Old Center Township Cemetery. It is located on land in Section 6 once owned by Minor Thomas Palmer, as shown in an 1885 Pottawattamie County atlas.[1]
